The honeybee is one of the more popular bees despite representing only a small percent of bee species. They measure at about 15mm in length and range anywhere from golden yellow to black.

It is essential to know that Hogarth’s Pest Control and Wildlife Removal does NOT harm honeybees. These bees are extremely beneficial to the environment and are a federally protected species. We have multiple professional beekeepers that we work with to safely and effectively remove a honeybee hive. If you believe in having found a honeybee hive on your property, give us a call and we can typically put you in touch with a bee keeper in your area.

alt="Honey Bee pollinating a flower"Honeybees will swarm during the spring months, which can cause customers to panic and fear of being stung. They are typically just resting when swarming but can begin to build a nest if they’ve stayed for more than 48 hours.

Benefits of the honeybee include:

  • Pollination
    • Honeybees are among the most popular of all the pollinators. They are an integral part of our ecosystem!
  • Honey
    • Humans have used honey for millions of years. It is not only a healthier alternative to white sugar but tastes wonderful on its own!
  • Beeswax
    • Used for candles and beauty products
  • Royal jelly, propolis and bee pollen
    • All of which have medicinal benefits

Threats

Honeybees do sting, but they only sting once, unlike wasps and hornets. The sting can be extremely painful if you do not immediately remove the stinger from the sting. Persons allergic to insect stings will have a more severe reaction.

Honey bee management should be addressed by a professional. Treatment or removal of a honeybee nest and the honey product can be very messy. Because honeybee colonies are so large, only a honey bee pest control professional or experienced beekeeper can safely remove a honeybee nest. If you have any questions or concerns about a beehive around your home, please call us. We pride ourselves in handling these insects responsibly and professionally.
